Explore More Illinois is a cultural pass program that allows Acorn Public Library District cardholders access to discounts at museums, park districts, historical societies, zoos, arts centers, recreational facilities, and other attractions. Visit Explore More Illinois and choose Acorn Public Library District and enter your library barcode and password or PIN.
Museum Adventure Pass Program
The Library offers a limited number of passes and discounts to local attractions. These cannot be reserved and are given out on a first come, first serve basis to current Acorn Public Library cardholders in good standing. Passes for the Brookfield Zoo are limited to one per family per checkout period. For a list of participating organizations, visit the Museum Adventure Pass website.
Passes must be picked up in person at the Youth Services Desk or the Reference Desk. Please Contact Us to inquire about availability.
Notary
We provide basic notary services. However, we cannot process real estate documents. There is a $1.00 fee for each notarized document. Please contact the Library in advance to ensure that a notary will be available during your visit.
Illinois License Plate Renewals
Acorn Public Library District offers the Illinois License Plate renewal service. Illinois residents will be able to renew their license plate stickers and leave with the sticker the same day*. You will need your Illinois Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Driver’s license number, and license plate number. There is a $9.50 service fee applied to each transactions. Cash or credit/debit card only.
* If your vehicle needs to pass an emissions test, the Library will be unable to renew your license plate. Due to staff scheduling, we may not be able to complete your request. Please contact the library to ensure that a staff member on schedule can accommodate your transaction.
Book Drop
We have a drive-up book drop located in the south parking lot.
Laminating
Laminating is done on Tuesdays and Thursdays by the Circulation Department. The fee is $0.50 per foot.
Art Exhibit Display
The Library’s upper level display case features a different local artist each month.
Income Tax Forms
From January to April, paper copies of some common tax forms are available on the upper level of the Library near the Circulation Desk. Federal and State tax forms may also be obtained online and printed at the patron’s expense at the Reference Desk or from our public computers.

Assistance with Tax Preparation
- AARP Tax-Aide Locator: Find free filing assistance for adults aged 50 and older from late January/early February through April 15.
- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA): Provides free assistance to those making under $52,000 per year, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those with limited English language skills. These services are available from late January/early February through April 15.
