Job Prep Week Virtual Events

These four virtual events presented by librarian and job coach Jez Layman will be available to watch on your own time from September 19th through September 25th! To receive access to any of the programs, please email kspringer@acornlibrary.org and specify which events you would like access to. You will then receive a link to view the workshop on September 19th.  

Here are the offerings available:

• Resume Workshop – Learn how to write an eye-catching and informative resume that’ll help you land the job you want. Discover how to create a document unique to your skills, experience, and goals, as well as how to avoid common mistakes and overcome issues like work gaps or age discrimination.

• Cover Letters Made Simple – Learn how to write a standout cover letter employers will want to read. Cover letters are the part of the job hunting process that cause the most amount of confusion for job seekers and can be what determines whether a candidate gets an interview. Follow along as we break down the process step-by-step to help you create a cover letter unique to you that complements your resume and highlights your skills.

• Interviews: No Stress Video and Phone Interviews – Video and phone interviews can be just as stressful as an in-person interview, but involve more difficult circumstances that can help or hurt your case to move on in the job hunting process. In this class, students learn the differences between types of interviews and how to prepare for them, as well as tips on best presenting yourself when you’re not actually in the room.

• Interviews: Ace Your In-Person Interview – Learn how to wow an employer at your interview. This class covers the before, during, and after of the most crucial part of the job hunting process. Students will learn how to prepare, research a company, dress the part, answer questions with ease, learn how to sell themselves better, and how to follow-up afterwards.
